Moon Phases

moon_phasesSince ancient times people have viewed the moon as a sacred object, a beautiful object that lights our way at night, influences the tides and a woman's cycle. Today, we still chart the moon's phases for many reasons including determining when is the best time to fish, to plant, or to read astrology charts. I like the moon for its beauty, and I believe at times you can see faeries jumping or gliding about when the light is just right...

Times in EST:

July Moon Phases:

New Moon: 2nd day, 19th hour, 20th minute
First Quarter: 9th day, 21st hour, 36th minute
Full Moon: 18th day, 1st hour 0 minutes
Last Quarter: 25th day, 13th hour 43rd minute

What's New

NEWS!

Great news everyone! Some of my images have just been licensed by The Fairy Society! This means that you will soon see my images popping up on various products, some of which are in the works now. Please see my "Licensing" section and click on The Fairy Society banner to view new products!

In December 2007 I was contacted by Vanessa Tellez, curator of, Zahra's Studio a gallery in Beacon, New York. She invited me to do a one-woman show there, and I accepted. The show is scheduled for October 2008. However, since I have very few pieces on hand to sell, I must create all new work. This challenge has inspired me greatly! Even though it is an awesome task, I wanted to chronicle this adventure so I started a new blog, which I invite you all to read. You can view it here: Countdown To A One Woman Show!

Here you will find works in progress and my feelings and thoughts about certain pieces. You will be able to follow me on my journey, the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful! So bookmark this page and check back often!

Many thanks to Keith Zahra founder and owner, and Vanessa Tellez, curator of Zahra's Studio for your invitation!

Fairy of the Month

NEW!  "Dark of the Moon" by JM Leotti.

Size: 11" x 14".

NOTE: If you have a Pop-up blocker enabled you must disable it to view the larger image or press and hold the "control" key as you click the link.

"Dark of the Moon" was inspired by the idea that every aspect of life can be represented by “fae.” The dark realm deals with death and the underworld. However, “death” may not necessarily mean physical death. It can also mean death of a habit or way of life that no longer suites you. While you are passing through the dark, ask the faeries to help you and they will pull you through to the light.

The original painting will be for sale at my upcoming show at Zahra’s Studio in Beacon, New York!

Creator of Faery Art, Janîce Leotti picture

Bio & Contact Me

I believe I've always been inspired by the faery folk. My mother has pictures I painted when I was about five years old of faeries with glitter trailing their skirts. However, it wasn't until my late teens that I became conscious of them. On my seventeenth birthday, I was given a copy of "Faeries" by Brian Froud and Alan Lee. I hid the book between my math and English books, and throughout the school day poured over every page, not hearing a word my teachers said. I didn't know what to do with this new information, so I went on to paint portraits. After a while, I noticed every time I painted a little girl or boy or wife of a wealthy patron, or the wealthy patron himself, I had the desire to give them pointy ears. It was then I knew the path I should follow, and I've been painting and sculpting images of faerie ever since. To date, my images have been licensed by Heaven & Earth Designs and The Fairy Society. My sculptures have been published in Contemporary Doll Collector Magazine, American Miniaturist Magazine, and Dollhouse Miniatures Magazine. Currently, I sell most of my work on eBay and through my web site. In October 2008 I will have my first one woman show at Zahra's Studio in Beacon New York.

Janîce lives in New York, with her husband, Paul Bachem, who is also a painter.
